What to Put in Your Profile?

That is a question I have no problem answering to for instance in this blog. I simply have some things I write about myself that I think to be typically me. I feel it necessary to put it up there so the accidental reader walking in on my blog can put everything that is written here in context.
A whole different thing for me is your profile on SL. It's well known that there are a lot of profile pervs there that love to read about what others put in their profile. I'm not one of them. As a matter of fact, most profiles to me are 9 out of 10 times a fail. It's not that people don't put effort in them but... It's so very limited in what you can put in there.
A small example of what happened yesterday:
<Real Nice woman>: Hi there Kylara. I was looking at your profile and I think it's very limited.
<Kyla>: True, I don't put a whole lot in my profile. Most profiles are boring to me. Instead I much prefer to get to know someone by talking with them. One can ask questions then that bring you to what you want to know a lot faster.
<Real nice woman>: True, so please tell me about your likes and your dislikes?
<Kyla> laughs... "Well now that would be the same as putting things in my profile. I will show you why it won't work: I really like cats but I'm not fond at spiders at all".
I know all too well that this is not what she was asking for. She could have reacted two ways: "Pfffftt, have fun" or: "hahaha, true but you know what I mean".
Well, of course I know what she means. Thing is... Even if I have a pretty good idea about the things she wants to hear. It's still not even close to answering direct questions.
Anyway... she went for that second choice, asking me more specific things she wanted to know about me and I read her profile, asked her questions about it and went far further than her profile. We talked a lot about a whole range of other things I totally forgot about. Some hours further I announced that it was way past bedtime for me already. We somehow had the feeling we connected well and there was a good reason to want to have each other on our friend list.
I can't wait to see her again because she is real nice to talk with and we have some common interests (nope... not going to tell you what they are but let's suffice to say that by reading my blogs in general, you could have a pretty good idea).
Oh and yes... I should perhaps put a little bit more in my profile. It doesn't matter that I am not a huge fan of them myself. I might miss on some nice contacts because I did not put some random nonsense in there.
To be continued?
Love,
Kyla
